All Are Invited to Attend the Annual Communiversity Festival on Sunday, April 28
The Communiversity celebration, which annually brings the University and the town of Princeton together for a day of performances, food, games and fun, is planned for Sunday, April 28, from 1 to 6 p.m. This is the first time that the town-gown fest will be held on a Sunday.
Scheduled to take place rain or shine on Nassau and Witherspoon streets and on the campus, the event is sponsored by students at the University and the Arts Council of Princeton. Merchants, nonprofit organizations, musicians, performing and visual artists, food vendors, and many University student organizations and performing groups will turn the area into a colorful fairground with events for students and families alike.
The Princeton University Band will kick off the festivities as it marches up Witherspoon Street beginning at 12:30 p.m. Campus Communiversity activities will feature: performance groups including the Princeton University Chamber Ensemble, Raks O, Sympoh, the Black Arts Company, Ballet Folklorico, Triple 8 Dance Company, and the VTones; over 50 student and campus organizations and departments providing information, demonstrations, food and activities for children in front of Nassau Hall; a tiger-shaped bounce house and kids sports clinics put on by University athletes on the Firestone Library green; and performances by 8 of the University's student a cappella groups in the East Pyne Hall arch.
The event also will include: tours of the campus by the student-led Orange Key guide service starting at 1:30 and 3 p.m. in front of Nassau Hall; a parade of flags by the International students at Princeton University; and visits from the University's tiger mascot and cheerleaders.
In town, the celebration continues on Nassau and Witherspoon Streets and Palmer Square. The streets are lined with food stalls, arts/crafts vendors, and booths manned by area non-profit organizations and local merchants. Performances on four more stages, parked fire trucks and ambulances for children to explore, arts demonstrations, and more add to the fun.
