Princeton University Hotline

  • 1 - IDENTIFY CONCERN
    Have you observed a possible violation of laws, regulations, University policy, or unethical behavior? Review the related policies for further guidance or seek Departmental Assistance.
  • 2 - DISCUSS CONCERN WITH DEPARTMENT CHAIR OR SUPERVISOR OR DOF OR HR
    Contact your department chair or supervisor for guidance about your concern OR report your concern directly to the Office of the Dean of the Faculty or the Office of Human Resources. If you are uncomfortable with this approach, if you wish to remain anonymous, or if all avenues have been exhausted and you have not received a sufficient response, see Step 3.

Our Commitment

Princeton University is committed to conducting its academic and administrative responsibilities in an ethical manner and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policy. The University not only expects, but depends on you to share in this responsibility through the reporting of concerns which involve possible noncompliance with policy or unethical behavior. All members of the University community are also expected to report all instances of suspected or observed potentially illegal activity per University policy.

Reporting concerns is a service to the University and will not jeopardize your employment. We expect that reports will be made in good faith to address legitimate issues or concerns. Recommended Process for Reporting Concerns

Please follow the recommended process (.pdf) to address your concerns at the University starting with your department chair or supervisor. If you are uncomfortable talking directly to your department chair or supervisor, you may report your concern directly to the Office of the Dean of the Faculty or the Office of Human Resources. If you are uncomfortable with this approach, if you wish to remain anonymous, or if all avenues have been exhausted and you have not received a sufficient response, you can use the University Hotline directly. Submissions to the University Hotline will be routed to and evaluated by the Chief Audit and Compliance Officer and General Counsel. In addition, the University Ombuds Office provides an informal alternative to existing University problem-solving services and procedures.

Faculty, staff, suppliers, and contractors who have concerns of any kind stemming from possible noncompliance with laws, government or external agency regulations, related University policies, errors or irregularities in Princeton's financial accounting practices or unethical behavior can report them to the University Hotline. The Hotline may also be used to report potentially illegal activity, per University policy.
