Patrick Schwemmer
Patrick Schwemmer is preparing a dissertation on sixteenth-century Japanese theatre and narrative painting, with attention to decentralization of patronage, amateur practice by warlords, and the influence of these on contemporary Jesuit liturgies. He is a Visiting Researcher at Hōsei University's Nogami Memorial Noh Theatre Research Institute.
At Princeton, Schwemmer has also written on topics including belief and choice in Sophocles and the Maccabean martyrologies, gender and surveillance in Syriac Christian liturgical theatre on the Silk Road, the philosophical dialogues and Sanskrit grammatology of Kūkai, the Zen funerary portraiture of Hasegawa Tōhaku, and a pastoral hieratic fragment from the Egyptian Middle Kingdom.
