Catherine Hansen
Catherine Hansen specializes in French and Romanian modernist and avant-garde literature.
Her dissertation, "Oneiric Activism: the Romanian Surrealist Group and Postwar Surrealism," situates the work of a Romanian surrealist cell group, active in the forties and fifties, in between the Bucharest interwar avant-garde and the postwar French reception and evolution of Surrealism.
Her recent publications include a translation of group member Dolfi Trost's Visible et Invisible and an essay on the "monstrous objectology" of group members Gellu Naum and Gherasim Luca.
She has worked as co-editor of the Princeton journal of translation Inventory and served on the board of the Society for Romanian Studies.
Catherine received her Bachelor's degree in English at Duke University and her Master's at New York University and Princeton. She has led precepts for courses on American bestselling novels and on the Gothic tradition. Her interests also include classical and modern Japanese literature, poststructuralist theory, and fantastic and speculative fiction.
