Nothing Left to Lose: Freedom and Agency in Madhyamaka
Lecture by Jay Garfield, Smith College
Questions about the freedom of the will have plagued Western action theory and ethical theory for centuries. Some philosophers have been asking lately what Buddhists have to say about the freedom of the will. The answer is, "nothing." And that is why Buddhist thought about agency and ethics might introduce some welcome cogency into Western philosophical discourse.
