Su'ad Abdul Khabeer's dissertation project responds to the lack of information and data about the relationship between Islam and American cultures within the U.S. Hip hop has taken a particularly strong footing among American Muslim youth as a medium for the articulation and performance of Muslim American cultures and civic engagement. By collecting data on an understudied, yet growing, segment of American society, Abdul Khabeer hopes to improve our knowledge about one of the younger communities of Americans negotiating the dynamics of religious practice and the arts in everyday life.
