Emily Abbruzo is currently examining the shifting role of the
museum in the modern urban environment. Important concepts of
the project are the development of semi-public urban spaces
and the cross infiltration between cultural and popular spheres
(specifically, retail). Her research focuses on a variety of
issues, from the incorporation of technology in museum exhibits,
to community outreach, to the infiltration of the museum shop.
An architectural and design focus guides this research, which
looks specifically at new retail and cultural spaces in New
York.
