The Center is interested in research that has implications for
practice in the field of cultural policy (philanthropy, public
policy making, organizational governance and strategy) as well
as research that addresses theoretical issues, in any discipline,
that bear upon arts and cultural policy. Research of international
scope will be considered as long as its findings make direct comparisons
with the U.S. In addition, we welcome projects that will contribute
to the field by making new data and information available for
future research and analysis.
Application procedures
Eligibility
- Grants will be awarded to Princeton University graduate students
doing independent research. Individuals who have received a
grant from the Center are not eligible until after completion
of their previously funded project.
- Special consideration will be given to those
proposals that might lead to a dissertation.
- Applicants must have the commitment of at least one faculty
member to serve as project supervisor.
Research proposals
Applicants must submit a 3-5 page
project description that includes 1) the project's primary research
question; 2) a summary of data and methods; and 3) a timetable
for completion of the project.
Other materials required from applicants are:
1) a cover letter along with the
application that explains the relevance of the proposed project
to cultural policy and the mission of the Center;
2) a brief description of a paper to be produced
for the Center's working paper series;
3) a curriculum vita;

6) three letters
of recommendation.
Review process
Applications will be reviewed by a committee of Princeton
faculty affiliated with the Center. The committee will not conduct
interviews, although it is possible that in the course of their
review, additional information will be requested of the applicant.
Requirements for receiving project and fellowship support
Grantees will be designated Research Affiliates of the Princeton
University Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies. Affiliates
will be expected to participate in special activities such as
research symposia and monthly workshops, and, on occasion, be
prepared to present drafts of work in progress. In addition, at
the completion of the grant period, all grantees will be expected
to submit a manuscript suitable for inclusion in the Center's
working paper series.
