Taylor Fravel on China’s Use of Force
Taylor Fravel, an assistant professor of political science at MIT and a 2006-2007 PHCWP fellow at Harvard, presented his research on “China’s Use of Force in Territorial Disputes” at the Woodrow Wilson School on 26 October 2006. Fravel explained why China used force in 6 of its overall 23 territorial disputes. He argued that China is most likely to use force when Chinese leaders see the “windows of vulnerability” that have been employed or will be employed by those neighboring states in their disputes with China.
