Abstract:
Global networks are ever changing. They are affected by economic
and social trends as well as emerging technologies and applications. AT&T Labs supports
initiatives from research in emerging technologies, to extending the life of legacy but critical
technologies. Our current research and engineering projects span across the fields of parallel
processing, operations research, storage and compression, optical communication, radio
network design and engineering, human factors, video quality, and many others.
Understanding the challenges of a global network, and fashioning practical solutions depends
on multi-disciplined teams who are able to draw upon a range of technologies and talents. Our
model for moving technology from research, through incubation, to our network is a key to our
success. Selected topics are discussed in this talk that illustrate our approach and the range of
scientific and engineering teams that are the underpinning of our network’s performance and
reliability.
