How to Apply
Applications to our graduate program are evaluated by the Department’s Graduate Program Committee. All students offered admission to the Ph.D. program are assured financial support for the five-year program. (Princeton is rather unique in providing this support; most other schools will guarantee only first-year funding.) New graduate students primarily spend the first semester on course work. They typically select their thesis research advisors after the first semester, based on a match of mutual interests. Thus, individual faculty members cannot make private assurances of financial aid or research supervision to applicants before admission. Please keep this in mind when contacting individual faculty members regarding your interest in applying to Princeton. Faculty members receive a large number of email messages from students expressing an interest in working with them and unfortunately cannot respond to these emails individually.
