EDGE Lab Coauthors Paper on Economics of Internet

Prof. Mung Chiang and his EDGE Lab team have coauthored a whitepaper with the National Exchange Carrier Association in response to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) National Broadband Plan. As the economics side of networking is becoming ever more important, they have been studying the fundamental question of how to use pricing as a lever to enable universal broadband coverage. In their paper, they will address important questions such as - Who will pay for the estimated cost of $350B in the next decade to enable universal coverage of broadband services in this country? How much can rural area consumers, content providers, and big ISPs contribute, in addition to taxpayers' money? Can pricing mechanisms be leveraged by the ISP as a practical approach to network management that is net-neutrality compatible? Complete paper can be found here.
