Juan Carlos Niebles’11 has been selected as one of the 2012 Microsoft Research Faculty Fellows for his work on designing novel algorithms for automatic recognition and detailed understanding of human motions, activities, and behaviors from images and videos; which can all be used in robotics. Niebles'11 is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of Universidad del Norte in Columbia.
