It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Professor Stuart C. Schwartz, friend, colleague, and former Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department. Stu passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in New Hampshire due to complications from pneumonia. Professor Schwartz, born in Forest Hills, NY, joined the faculty in 1966 after receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Prof. Mung Chiang has been selected to receive the IEEE 2012 Kiyo Tomiyasu Award for demonstrating the practicability of a new theoretical foundation for the analysis and design of communication networks. The IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award recognizes outstanding early to mid-career contributions to technologies holding the promise of innovative applications.
