The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) greeted
the undergraduate class of 2008 with an orientation session
and barbecue on Monday, Sept. 6.
Dean Maria Klawe, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs
Peter Bogucki, and other faculty welcomed the new class
to campus.
To induct these freshman into the SEAS family, the undergraduate
office has created a seminar series called the First-Year
Engineering Series, or 1-Y.E.S.
Plus, Dean Klawe will personally meet all freshman by dining
with small groups of them in their residential colleges.
SEAS also lauded three undergraduates for winning prestigious
University-wide awards at Opening Exercises on Sept. 5.
Lester Mackey ’07, a computer science major, won
the Freshman First Honor Prize. The George Wood Legacy
Junior Prize was shared by Megan Cunningham ’05 an
operations research and financial engineering major, and
Jesse Levinson ’05, a computer science major.
Graduate students at the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS)
were welcomed to campus with an orientation ceremony and a barbecue complete
with music and door prizes on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
Students were welcomed by SEAS Dean Maria Klawe and Stephen
Friedfeld, the
new associate dean of graduate affairs. Representatives from
each department, the Graduate Engineering Council, and the Graduate Women
in Science and Engineering lent many helping hands.
