Mun Choi *92 is provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at UConn
Mun Y. Choi was appointed provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Connecticut. He will be responsible for all academic initiatives and programs, oversight of academic and institutional strategic planning, and leading the budgeting and allocation of University resources. Choi had been serving in this role on an interim basis since June 2012.
Choi joined the faculty at UConn in 2008. It was during his tenure as dean of the School of Engineering and professor of mechanical engineering that the number of undergraduate degrees awarded increased greatly along with marked rises in undergraduate applications and research awards.
In prior years Choi was at Drexel University, where he served as department head of mechanical engineering and associate dean for research. Earlier, from 1994 to 2000, he was a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois. Before then he was a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Choi received his M.A. in mechanical and aerospace engineering and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Princeton University. His undergraduate engineering degree is from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
