Ed Felten on interdisciplinary opportunities for undergraduates
Ed Felten, professor of computer science and director of the Center for Information Technology Policy, discusses the possibilities for interdisciplinary study offered for undergraduates who would like to combine different areas of interest such as sociology, politics, and computer science.
Felten notes that when he came to Princeton 17 years ago his focus was purely technological. "But I got interested over time in public policy and how technology intereacted with the decisions that government and society make," he said. "People across the university were excited to see a faculty member taking off in a new direction and combining different areas of study."
Felten said that Princeton encourages students to do the same thing. "A big part of Princeton is drawing lines across traditional disciplines," Felten says.
