Carles Boix
Carles Boix teaches and conducts research on comparative politics and political economy. His books, Political Parties, Growth and Equality (1998) and Democracy and Redistribution (2003), both won awards from the American Political Science Association for the best book in political economy and/or comparative research. He is the co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Comparative Politics (Oxford University Press, 2007). His current projects include: the comparative examination of the impact of constitutional design on democratic survival; the book The Birth of Party Democracy, which explores the political conditions that led to the emergence of various party systems and electoral institutions in advanced democracies at the turn of the 20th century; the development of simulation models to explain the formation and expansion of states in modern and contemporary Europe; and the use of osteological evidence to trace the sources and evolution of inequality over time. Before joining Princeton he taught at the University of Chicago. PhD. Harvard.
