Objective of the Princeton University Storage Facility

OBJECTIVE:

The Princeton University Storage Facility ("PUSF") is located at 755 Alexander Road in West Windsor. It is operated by the building Services Department in the Facilities Group. The purpose of this facility is to:

  1. Retain selected equipment, material, and records not being utilized for current programs or projects, but for which potential future use exists.
  2. Operate in such a way as to ensure efficient, economical utilization and storage of equipment and warehouse space assigned.
GENERAL:

What follows should server as a guideline for anyone considering storage at the PUSF:

  • No hazardous materials or flammable liquids will be stored in the facility.
  • The PUSF does not operate as a receiving area for deliveries from vendors or suppliers.
  • Storage space in this facility is very limited. There is no space available that provides air conditioning or humidity control. Some, but not all, spaces are heated to 55 degrees during cold weather.
  • Excess furniture should be handled through the Surplus Equipment program that currently exists through purchasing, rather than being stored at PUSF.
  • Requests for storage of equipment ad material are initiated through the PUSF manager. Prior to approval, the department requesting storage services must complete a storage request form. This form will require written justification indicating the use of stored items in a future project or program. The form should be returned to the PUSF manager who may forward it to the Provost's office for further review. This applies to all requests for use of storage space except for record storage.
  • Building Services movers are available for movement of storage materials to and from the PUSF on a first-come, first-served basis. However, a move request form and sufficient lead time are required to insure the movers' availability. Move orders will only be processed by Building Services when placed by PUSF employees.
  • There is no cost to the department for storage of approved materials, nor for moving of materials to or from storage if the Building Services Moving Service is used. Departments that can not wait for the Building Services Movers have the option of retaining commercial movers (at the customer's cost) to transport materials. However, no materials will be received by the PUSF without making prior arrangements.
  • Upon approval of the storage request, the PUSF employees will arrange for the Building Services Movers to transport the materials. Customers will be contacted to arrange for convenient pick-up and delivery times.
