The Faculty and Staff Rental Housing Program.

Princeton University owns and manages approximately 600 rental units, ranging in size from efficiency and studio apartments to four- and five- bedroom freestanding single family houses. All rental units are within a reasonable walking distance of campus and nearby shopping. They are located within the community of Princeton and its plentiful resources and are within an easy ride to a bus or train for quick access to the cities of Philadelphia and New York. You will find a wide range of building styles and unit configurations, which make the rental stock appealing to all members of the University workforce.

The program is available to all University employees who work at least half-time. Rental housing allocation is based on the Rental Housing Eligibility Policy which gives the highest priority to teaching faculty, senior research staff, and senior administrative staff, then progresses through each subsequent category as availability allows.

Leases are written for each rental unit from the date of occupancy through the following June 30. Each spring rental rates usually increase, and renewals are offered, provided eligibility criteria continue to be met. Short extensions beyond the expiration date of the lease may be possible at the increased rental rate.

Smaller Apartments

There are several smaller apartment complexes included in the program. These communities are comprised of efficiency and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Styles range from garden apartment and country cottage-like to the more urban brownstone.

There are six townhouse complexes in the program. Unit sizes range from two- to four-bedroom with one or two baths. Most townhouse units include a dishwasher, a utility room or basement and hookups for a washer and dryer. Individual small yards or garden spaces are usually a part of these complexes as well as a common greenspace. Garages are available at some locations for an additional monthly fee.

Single Family Homes

There are a limited number of freestanding single family houses available each year; most have three bedrooms, with one or two baths. A few have four or more bedrooms and multiple baths. Styles range considerably from Victorian to modern contemporary. Some of the units include a garage.

Furnished Apartments

The Faculty and Staff Housing Office manages a limited number of furnished rental units, ranging in size from one- to four-bedroom. These units are located within the Stanworth and Hibben/Magie Complexes and are completely equipped, with the exception of small personal appliances, bed linen, blankets and towels.

Generally the minimum rental period for these apartments is three months. Furnished units are intended for visiting personnel only.
