Princeton University Sublet Regulations.
Eligibility
Subletting of University rental units is not permitted unless the university tenant is on approved leave for all or part of the academic year, wishes to sublet during the summer, or, due to extenuating circumstances, approved by the Housing Office in writing, is unable to reside in his/her rental during a specified temporary period not to exceed the term of current lease agreement.
Guidelines
- The University housing resident will be responsible for making rental payments. The University resident will assume responsibility for any and all damages beyond normal wear and tear that may be caused to the property during the period of sub tenancy and will bear all costs of such repairs.
- No sublet is permitted beyond the lease period in effect without written approval from the Housing Office.
- University rental units must be sublet to University affiliates only. In the case of extenuating circumstances exceptions may be granted by the Housing Office.
- Rental amounts charged for the unit must not exceed the current rental amounts charged by the University for a comparable furnished unit. The University housing resident will remain liable for the total rent due during the term of the lease agreement.
- Sublet listings/advertisements must be approved by the Housing Office prior to posting.
- The Housing Office will not issue additional keys to any subtenant without written or electronic authorization from the University housing resident.
- The Housing Office cannot issue parking permits to any subtenant. The subtenant must obtain a parking permit for the period of the sub tenancy from the parking office located in New South. The subtenant must have a copy of the approved sublet permission form when obtaining a parking permit.
- The University housing resident must complete a Sublet Permission Form (available from the Housing Office), and prepare a written "agreement" for the subtenant which clearly states the period of sub tenancy, rental payment expectations, and any other conditions deemed necessary. The "agreement" must be signed by all parties involved and a copies submitted along with the Sublet Permission Form to the Housing Office prior to the start of sublet period.
