Dormitory Kitchen Designations and Locations
There may be times when you may wish to use a kitchen to prepare a snack, or a meal. Students may not cook in dormitory rooms, infact fire safety regulations strictly prohibit it. However, there are kitchens located throughout campus for use by students. These kitchens and the use designated for each are articulated here.
- Residential College Kitchens
Students have access to at least one kitchen in each residential college. These kitchens, available to anyone living in a residential college, are generally considered snack kitchens and generally not intended for the preparation of full meals. - Upperclassmen Dormitory Kitchens
These unlocked kitchens are located in upperclassmen dormitories and are for general student use. Each kitchen contains a range and a refrigerator, and may contain small appliances such as a toaster and microwave. - Limited Access Kitchens
These are large, locked kitchens and are intended for junior and senior students living in Upperclassmen dormitories. Students who wish to utilize these kitchens may obtain keys from the Housing Office. Limited access kitchens are full kitchens, containing tables and chairs, a full-size refrigerator, a stove, a toaster, and a microwave. Students with access may store their own appliances in limited access kitchens, provided they are kept clean and in good working condition.

Dormitory Kitchen Maintenance
It is the responsibility of each student using a dormitory kitchen to clean up after use. This includes cleaning utensils, dishes, and wiping spills from countertops. Building Services custodial staff will provide for the general cleaning of kitchen spaces. To report unsanitary conditions contact Facilities Customer Services at (609)258-8000.
Reporting a Problem with a Kitchen Appliance
If an oven, toaster, microwave, range or refrigerator provided by the University is not functioning properly, please call the Housing Office at (609)258-6792 to report the problem. The University maintains service contracts with several vendors for the purpose of repairing kitchen appliances.
Dormitory Kitchen Inspections
Sanitation and safety concerns require kitchen inspections several times during the academic year. The Housing Office Living Policies and Dining Services Guide contains safety tips for sanitary and safe conditions. Kitchens will be closed if unsanitary or unsafe conditions are found by the Housing Inspectors.
