Attaching Items to the Walls
You will be provided with poster mounts at Check In. When hanging pictures and posters on your wall, be sure to use these mounts. Nails, pins and screws will damage the wall in your room. If you need more poster mounts, you can pick them up at the Facilities Customer Service Center in the MacMillan Building.
Room Decoration/Personalization Guidelines
The Housing Department publishes specific guidelines for decorating and personalizing your dorm room.
Window Treatments
Your dorm room windows are fitted with screens as well as shades or blinds. If you wish, you may hang curtains in your windows. It is best to measure your window and purchase your curtains after you arrive on campus.
Bulletin Boards and White Boards
Many dorms have white message boards attached to the wall adjacent to the dorm room entrance. If your dormitory does not have these boards, you may install your own (10"x12" or less) on the wall adjacent to your dorm room entry door using approved poster mounts. Fire Safety Policy prohibits hanging anything directly on your door.
Carpet
If you choose, you may place a carpet in your room. Be sure that you do not attach it to the floor in any way and that it does not interfere with the free and full opening of your door. The Housing Department provides guidelines for putting carpet in your dorm room. Floor sizes vary from room to room, so you may want to purchase a rug after your arrival on campus to insure that you purchase the appropriate size.
