Trash and Recycling

Trash Removal
A trash receptacle is provided for you and contained in your room. Please place all trash in the trash receptable. When your receptacle is filled place it in the hallway outside of your room and our custodial staff will empty it for you. Please bring your trash can back into your room once it has been emptied.
Recycling
Recycling is mandatory at Princeton. The Office of Sustainability maintains information about recycling initiatives on campus, including a Recycling Guidelines flyer to help the Princeton Community recycle more effectively.
Dormitory Recycling Containers
Follow these guidelines for placing recyclables in the proper container:
- Mixed paper
Place all mixed paper in the black containers labeled "recycled paper only" contained in your room.When the receptacle is filled, place it in the hallway and our custodial staff will empty it for you. Please bring the receptacle back into your room once it has been emptied.
- Glass, metal, and plastic containers
Place all glass bottles, cans, and plastic containers in the recycling barrels located in your residence hall bathrooms. Our custodial staff will empty these containers.
- Alkaline Batteries
Place all alkaline batteries in the bins available in laundry rooms or common rooms of most residence colleges and upperclass dorms.
