Jadwin Hall, an award-winning building designed by Hugh Stubbins & Associates of Cambridge, Massachusetts, houses the Physics Department. It was dedicated in 1970. The building contains research area, instructional space, and faculty office space. This project will replace or upgrade the building's heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC), lighting, and windows. Life safety system upgrades will include new sprinklers throughout and emergency lighting enhancements. The project will include the addition of a mechanical penthouse to house the new HVAC equipment.

• New energy efficient HVAC systems, including a heat recovery system, will capture heat energy typically lost in a standard air conditioning system.
• Energy efficient lighting and building controls will reduce energy consumption while increasing comfort.   
• Energy efficient windows, designed to replicate the existing design, will also reduce energy consumption.

Project will be completed in phases from fall 2009 through approximately fall 2013.
