Coming This Fall; Keyless Locks for Dormitory Room Access
Beginning fall semester, undergraduate students will be able to use their TigerCard to access their dorm rooms by placing it in front of a reader and entering a PIN. All room doors will have keyless locks and will automatically lock. Students will no longer need to carry a brass key.
Later this summer, undergraduate students will receive detailed information from Housing and Real Estate Services (HRES) regarding the fall move-in process. More information on the keyless lock system will also be posted on the HRES website during the summer.
In addition to enhancing safety and security, the new system provides increased accessibility, savings, efficiency, better use of resources and technology and the convenience of not having to carry both a key and a TigerCard.
A pilot keyless lock program, implemented this past academic year in 1938 Hall, received very positive and favorable response and feedback.
