Protecting and Preserving the Grounds During Your Outdoor Event
Requesting Grounds Protection
Protecting the grounds at Princeton during an outdoor event is a primary concern. Depending upon the weather, the nature of the event and the prevailing ground conditions, Facilities may take action to limit potential damage to the campus.
Please submit an Event Support Request when planning any outdoor event. Our staff will contact you and make the determination, depending on weather and ground conditions, as to whether or not precaution needs to be taken.
If your weekend or evening event requires unanticipated assistance during your event please contact Public Safety at 609-258-3333 as soon as possible to get help.
Straw and Matting
We will work with event sponsors to provide protection from mud, rain runoff, and other ground conditions which may impact the event. This may require the placement of straw or rubber matting to absorb moisture and provide protection from the mud.
We will contact you after receiving your Event Support Request to discuss your needs and schedule the work. If you have immediate concerns, you may contact the following Event Support service experts:
- Charlie Krank, Assistant Director, Grounds and Building Maintenance.
- Al Pearson, Manager Grounds

Fee for Services
Any action taken by Facilities to preserve the campus grounds or provide protection to attendees will result in a charge to the event account based on actual labor costs. In addition, there is a fee of $25.00 per unit of heavy black rubber matting.
