Protecting and Preserving the Grounds During Your Outdoor Event
Protecting the grounds at Princeton during an outdoor event is a primary concern. Depending upon the weather, the nature of the event and the prevailing ground conditions, our Grounds Department may take action to limit potential damage to the campus.
Straw and Matting
The Grounds Department will work with event sponsors to provide protection from mud, rain runoff, and other ground conditions which may impact the event. This may require the placement of straw or rubber matting to absorb moisture and provide protection from the mud.
Requesting Grounds Protection
Event sponsors are required to inform our Grounds and Building Maintenance staff in advance when planning an outdoor event. Our staff will then make the determination, depending on weather and ground conditions as to whether or not precaution needs to be taken. The work order request will also be placed for you. If your event is in the evening or on a weekend, grounds staff are normally not present. If your weekend or evening event requires unanticipated Grounds assistance during your event, contact Public Safety who will call-in Grounds staff for you.
Who to Contact
Contact either individual to report your outdoor event. In the event that a determination is made that grounds protection is necessary a work request will be placed for you:

- Al Pearson, Manager Grounds

When requesting an unanticipated need for Grounds service in the evening or on the weekend please call the Office of Public Safety who will call-in ground staff for you:
Fee for Services
Any action taken by the Grounds Department to preserve the campus grounds or provide protection to attendees will result in a charge to the event account based on actual labor costs. In addition, there is a fee of $25.00 per unit of heavy black rubber matting. Tradesperson rates may be found in the Services Catalog.
