Standard Lock Lockout Re-Entry Service University Housing Properties
Facilities is the sole provider of extra keys, new locks, and lock changes in University buildings. The issuance of keys, including replacement and temporary keys, new locks and lock changes in University housing properties is coordinated through the department of Housing and Real Estate Services. Residents of University housing are encouraged to lock their residence, to keep keys in a secure place, and to bring their key when leaving a dorm room, apartment or other residence. On those occasions when a resident is locked out a re-entry service is provided.
Who May Request This Service
This service is available to undergraduate and graduate students residing in dormitories with standard locks and to graduate students, faculty and staff residing in University rental properties. (Students with keyless locks see the Housing and Real Estate Services Keyless Lock website for keyless lock lockout policy and procedures)
To Request This Service
The method of request and service detail will depend on the timing of the request:
- Monday-Friday, Regular Business Hours
During regular business hours residents are provided a temporary key issued at the Housing and Real Estate Services office. Residents are required to signout the key and present a TigerCard as proof of identity. To avoid a non-compliance fee the key must be returned within 24 hours. A lock change will be performed and additional fees will apply if a temporary key is not returned within a two week period.
Residents unable to come to the Housing and Real Estate Services office have an alternate choice to contact Public Safety to request re-entry. (see details below) You will be asked to specify the circumstances preventing you from obtaining a temporary key from the Housing and Real Estate Services office. In addition you must agree to a service fee.
- After Business Hours Requests and Weekends
Residents requiring re-entry after business hours should contact Public Safety at (609) 258-1000. The Public Safety Officer will arrange to meet you at your place of residence.
