Daphne Koller is an award-winning teacher who pioneered in her Stanford classes many of the ideas that underlie the user experience in Coursera, the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform she co-founded in 2012. The company now partners with the top universities and organizations in the world to offer courses online for anyone to take, for free. A faculty member at Stanford since 1995, she has conducted research on machine learning and probabilistic modeling, with applications to systems biology and personalized medicine. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, commonly known as the “genius award,” and the ACM/Infosys award. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and was recognized as one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People for 2012.
