Vice-Chancellor, New York University Shanghai
Jeffrey Lehman is the inaugural vice-chancellor of New York University Shanghai, which was established in 2012. He previously was founding dean of the Peking University School of Transnational Law, president of Cornell University, and dean of the University of Michigan Law School. He served on the Joint Task Force on Enhancing Cooperation in India-U.S. Relations in the Global Innovation Economy and the American Council on Education Blue Ribbon Task Force on Global Engagement. His honors include the Friendship Award, China’s highest award for foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China’s economic and social development, and the National Equal Justice Award from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. His most recent book is An Optimistic Heart: What Great Universities Can Give Their Students…and the World.
