President, American Council of Learned Societies
Pauline Yu has been president of the American Council of Learned Societies since 2003 and served for the previous 10 years as dean of humanities at the University of California, Los Angeles. A past member of the board of overseers of Harvard University, she serves on the boards of several organizations, including the National Humanities Center, the Teagle Foundation, and the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, as well as on the Scholars’ Council of the Library of Congress. She also is a trustee of the Asian Cultural Council and the American Academy in Berlin and a board member of the Heyman Center for the Humanities at Columbia University and the Hong Kong-America Center. A senior research scholar at Columbia, she is the author or editor of five books and numerous articles on classical Chinese poetry, comparative literature, and issues in the humanities.
