
Internship Highlights

Anthropology major Raphael Frankfurter ’13 interned at the Global Action Foundation’s Wellbody Clinic in rural Sierra Leone. He assessed the mental health needs of civilian amputees to determine the prevalence of PTSD-like symptoms and develop a potential intervention.

Molecular Biology major Erick Kazarian ’12 interned at the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research in Pennsylvania. He assisted with research on perioperative pain protocol and infection diagnostics for patients undergoing hip and knee replacement surgeries.

Ecology and Evolutionary Biology major Rebecca Butler ’10 interned at Resources for the Future in Washington, DC. She developed a model of the transmission of antibiotic resistant bacteria during a flu epidemic.

Economics major Jonathan Hezghia ’13 interned at the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children in El Salvador. He helped implement a water purification system at the local school, organized a Healthy Foods Festival, and conducted research on a plant-based method of water purification.

History major Sarimer Sanchez ’11 interned at Public Health Solutions in New York City. She participated in research on breastfeeding practices and beliefs among the city’s Latina mothers.

Psychology major Idil Kore ’10 interned at TEBA Development in South Africa. She collected data on the health, living conditions and livelihood strategies in households of former mineworkers who ceased work due to illness.

Religion major Praveen Murthy ’10 interned with the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement in South India. He assisted with construction projects and health education programs to provide clean water, improve sanitation, promote proper hygiene and treat diarrheal disease.
