Department Requirements
Writing samples (not to exceed 25 pages), portfolios, music samples, policy memos, and other materials may be required by the department you are applying to. Please refer to the additional departmental requirements on the Degree-granting Department: Application Requirements chart. Most additional departmental requirements can be uploaded during the electronic application in the space provided with the exception of Architecture portfolios and Music samples.
Architecture portfolios MUST be mailed in hard copy format and received by December 31.
Music samples can be accepted in the following format:
- Preferred Method - Create a website of your work and provide the URL in the space provided within the electronic application.
- MP3 Method - Upload your MP3 music files in the space(s) provided within the electronic application. Please refer to the File Upload Requirements. Note: A maximum of 6 files will be accepted. Each file uploaded must be 10MB or less.
- Mail Method - Mail in your hard copy music sample by December 31.
Please avoid special packaging as this delays the processing of your materials and does not increase your opportunity for admission. Include your full name, date of birth, and department on all materials sent. Please mail these materials to:

Materials submitted will become the property of Princeton University and will only be returned if a self addressed stamped envelope is submitted with the portfolio/music sample. Others will be discarded after May 15.
