Puccini's Madama Butterfly
Presented by Opera New Jersey, Puccini’s ravishing, sensuous Madama Butterfly, one of opera’s undisputed masterworks, recounts the well-known story of a young American naval officer who marries a Japanese geisha known as Butterfly. For him it is a diversion, but for her it is true love. After he returns to America she bears his child and expectantly waits for a joyful reunion that is not to be.
