ACCESS (African Centre for Climate and Earth System Science)

What is needed to attract more science and engineering students to study at the University of Cape Town for their semester abroad?  The astonishing diversity of land and seascapes in a small region around Cape Town make that the ideal location for a special earth sciences semester for Princeton undergraduates.  The next steps include identification of courses appropriate for Princeton students, and of UCT professors who can take a lead in organizing short (day-long) field trips which should be part of certain courses.  In addition, this project will explore ways to develop long-term research projects jointly with South African scientists in order to help establish an African center of excellence in earth sciences known as ACCESS (African Centre for Climate and Earth System Science.)  We would like to investigate a graduate program that gives South African students access to Princeton facilities.
