2013 Global Seminars: Documentary Filmmaking in Kenya; The Art of Science Storytelling
Application Deadline: Feb. 18, 2013. This seminar will guide budding filmmakers and Africanists to search for answers to two essential questions: How can the art of film advance the causes of science? How do communities use media to support their environmental activism? Over the course of six weeks, seminar students, in their work with dedicated scientists, filmmakers, and environmental activists, will begin to understand some of the crucial international development issueswater, wildlife, agriculture, and land use, for exampleand will learn how to communicate memorably about them through video.

Global Health Colloquium: Public Health in Complex Emergencies: "Mistakes of the Past, Lessons for the Future" - Ron Waldman
From Cambodia to Somalia, from Indonesia to Rwanda, from Haiti to Syria, the past forty years have seen one massive disaster after another. What has the relief community learned? What mistakes does it still make? What are the issues of the future? Drawing on numerous experiences from the field, this fast-paced presentation will highlight both the successes and the failures of humanitarian intervention in the health sector.
