Before Princeton, I had never been involved in student government organizations and felt little need to become actively engaged in improving aspects of the school that relate to the students.
I grew at Princeton by learning the importance of such organizations and discovered a passion in taking on issues that affect the student body.
I supported “cross-pollination” by joining Ivy Council. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with students who have more experience working in student government organizations than I do. I have gained much from being exposed to their approaches to problem-solving and their enthusiasm to work as a team in the interest of fellow students.
I learned that student government organizations serve a vital role in various aspects of student life and that if I have a remote interest in such groups I should make every attempt to participate in one.
After reflecting on my experience at Princeton, I have concluded that as the member of a larger institution, you should seek to obtain positions that allow you to become involved in addressing and confronting issues that relate to all members. In doing this, you can not only make for a great experience and a learning opportunity, but also for a rewarding endeavor.
