Beginners Talmud
How can frail, mortal, and imperfect human beings dare to approach their Creator in prayer? How can sincere
and authentic religious sentiments find expression through reciting a fixed liturgy? These questions and
more will be explored in this weekly class in the fifth chapter of the Talmudic tractate Brakhot. In addition, we will pay attention to the structure, vocabulary, and hermeneutics of the Talmud - for centuries the central element of Jewish intellectual and spiritual life. All texts will be provided in English translation on as well as in the Hebrew/Aramaic original.
