The Rise of Extremist Politics in Europe
The Whig-Cliosophic Society and the Center for Jewish Life are hosting a public lecture by the Right Honourable Dr. Denis MacShane, Member of Parliament for Rotherham. The lecture is entitled: “The Rise of Extremist Politics in Europe: How European Political Discourse is Reverting to Old Themes – Nationalist, Racist and Anti-Semitic Ideologies Have Resurfaced in European Politics.” Dr. MacShane was former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's Minister for Europe. He chaired the All Party Commission of Inquiry into Anti-Semitism in 2005, is the current Chair of the European Institute for the Study of Contemporary anti-Semitism, and wrote Globalising Hatred: The New Antisemitism in 2008. He writes books and articles on European affairs and is considered to be the British Parliamentarian with the most expertise in European Politics. He speaks French, German and Spanish and is an advisor to the French Socialist presidential candidate, François Hollande.
