Profile

I am a sixth year Ph.D. student in History. My research interests cover a range of subjects including, but not limited to, the social history of the late medieval and early modern Middle East and the Balkans, history of knowledge in the Islamicate world, the natural and occult sciences in the Greco-Arabic tradition, and Sufism.   

My dissertation, "Hearts of Gold and Silver: The Production of Alchemical Knowledge in the Early Modern Ottoman World," investigates the social and cultural history of alchemy as this branch of knowledge was imagined and practiced by the Ottoman learned circles. 

I earned my B.A. in Economics and History from New York University in 2001. Prior to coming to Princeton, I also studied at the University of Crete, Rethymno and Bogazici University in Istanbul, from where I received my M.A. in Byzantine History in 2006.
