Historical Memory Symposium 2/22/08
Department of History
Historical Memory of Violence and Catastrophe Symposium
Dickinson Hall, Room 211
This one-day symposium will explore some contemporary historical memories of war, genocide, political and man-assisted catastrophes. The symposium will feature three panels, each examining a global cross-section of memory in a variety of countries including Chile, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Poland, Russia, Turkey, and the United States. One question the symposium will address is what are the implications of the fragmentation of memories and the absence of a common culture of memory in a globalized world? The symposium will take place in 211 Dickinson Hall, from 9:30 am to 6pm on Friday, 22 February, sponsored by the Department of History.
