Upon completion of this session, the participant shall be able to:
1. Summarize evidence for the fundamental impact of social support in prevention, heath care and patients’ well being.
2. Summarize evidence for the benefits of peer support programs in prevention, health care and diabetes management.
3. Discuss varied models for providing peer support in health care and prevention, specify which best fits their health care setting and the patients it serves.
4. Specify initial steps for developing peer support as a resource within their own health care settings.
