Information about H1N1 & Seasonal Influenza

With the spread of the new H1N1 (swine) flu virus worldwide, the University is taking a range of steps to help you keep yourself and your co-workers from getting sick. Because there are many members of our campus community who may be at higher risk from complications from flu, it is essential that everyone take precautions to stay healthy and know what to do should they become ill with flu or flu-like illness.

As a supervisor, you play a key role in helping to minimize the spread of illness by remaining vigilant and encouraging employees to adhere to the guidance in this communication as well as the personal hygiene and other precautions detailed on the University’s H1N1 Web page.

A set of supervisory guidelines for supervisors at www.princeton.edu/hr/progserv/er/policyguid/fluguidancesupervisors.pdf has been developed through a collaborative effort with individuals from the offices of university health services, environmental health and safety, executive vice president, communications, and human resources to help you manage during the anticipated flu season.

In the supervisory guidelines, you will learn about a temporary policy change effective only from September 1, 2009, through March 31, 2010, that permits employees, in specific instances, to borrow time from FY11 sporadic absence leave allocations.

On the HR website at www.princeton.edu/hr/progserv/er/policyguid/flu/, you also will find a longer set of workforce guidelines, including frequently asked questions, and links to related policies.
