Retirement Plans Princeton University's retirement plan is offered through the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA) and the College Retirement Equities Fund (CREF) and/or Vanguard Investment Co. Eligibility and Vesting: Participation is effective the first of the month coincident with or next following the date of hire. You are fully vested after two and one-half years of service. Your employment with a previous employer will be credited toward the vesting requirement if the prior employer was classified as an exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or if the employee was employed by a public college or university which maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and has a regularly enrolled body of students in attendance at the place where its educational activities are regularly carried out. The prior employer is defined as your most recent employer prior to joining the University. Employment at the prior employer will not be credited if employment was terminated more than six months before the employee was hired at Princeton University. To be credited for previous employment, as described above, please have your previous employer complete the Princeton University Certification of Prior Employment form and mail it to Human Resources.
Group Supplemental Retirement Plan Contributions (voluntary) You may wish to increase your retirement income by making pretax contributions through salary reduction to a Group Supplemental Retirement Plan (GSRA) with TIAA-CREF or Vanguard Investment Co. The Supplemental Retirement Plan maintains the same basic features as the regular retirement plan with some added options. Under the Supplemental Retirement Plan loans can be drawn against your account and hardship distributions are available. For more information please contact Human Resources. Eligibility: coverage begins effective the first of the month coincident with or next following date of hire, or the date the enrollment form is signed, whichever is later.
