Short Term (Temporary) Disability
When you are unable to perform your job due to an illness, an injury or a disability that is not related to work, Princeton University provides an income replacement plan, allowing you to focus on your recuperation.
From your first day of work and if you are eligible for benefits, Princeton provides disability insurance at no cost to you. Our Short Term Disability Plan provides income replacement for up to 26 weeks as long as you apply within the first two weeks you are absent from work and your medical provider submits the necessary documentation.
Benefits eligible employees may receive full base salary for up to 12 weeks and 75% of base salary for an additional 14 weeks.
This plan compensates probationary and casual hourly workers at the state rate.
For administrative departments, when an employee is approved for short term disability, the disability benefits are charged to the department for up to 26 weeks. For academic departments, the department is charged for the first 30 days of each disability.
