Policy Number and Title: 3.1.1 Time off for Marriage, Civil Union or Commitment Ceremony for Same-Sex Partners
Applicable to: All Biweekly–paid Employees
Effective Date: February 19, 2007

Policy Description

Employees may take one of the following days as leave with pay for marriage, civil union or for commitment ceremony for samesex partners:
  1. the last working day before the day of marriage, civil union or the commitment ceremony for same-sex partners;
  2. the day of marriage, civil union or the commitment ceremony for samesex partners;
  3. the first working day after the day of marriage, civil union or the commitment ceremony for same-sex partners.
With supervisory approval, additional time may be taken and charged to vacation, optional holidays, time off for compelling reasons or leave without pay.

Procedures

Employee
At least two weeks prior to the marriage, civil union or commitment ceremony, talks with supervisor about the day to be taken and about any additional days off which the employee wishes to take.
 
Notifies the Office of Human Resources of marriage, civil union or commitment ceremony and makes any changes desired regarding medical and life insurance policies, payroll forms and personal data such as new name and address, if applicable. Supervisor
If an additional leave without pay is granted, sends Leave of Absence Form to the Office of Human Resources for processing.
