Policy Description

Retirees
University employees retiring from Princeton University who are at least 55 years of age and who have at least ten years of service (Regular Retiree) are able to use and retain their University identification cards.
 
The identification card entitles the retiree to employee status with regard to the use of athletic facilities, library privileges, Prospect, McCarter Theatre series, concert series, lectures, plays, movies and athletic events. (See: Employee Portfolio of Information for details.)
 
Retirees must call the TigerCard Office each October to arrange to obtain a new validation sticker. For more information, refer to the TigerCard website.
 
Supervisors should advise prospective retirees who wish to have continued use of University facilities to keep their current identification cards at the time of retirement.
 
Spouses or Domestic Partners of Regular Retirees
Spouses or domestic partners of retiring University employees are able to use and renew their dependent ID cards.
 
Current ID cards and ID validation stickers are not automatically issued to spouses or domestic partners of regular retirees. Requests must be made annually and in person to the ID Office. 
 
Surviving spouses or domestic partners of Regular Retirees
Surviving spouses or domestic partners of Regular Retirees are eligible to use and renew their dependent ID cards. Current ID cards and validation stickers will only be issued at the request of the surviving spouses or domestic partners. ID cards and validation stickers will not be issued automatically. Requests should be made annually and in person to the ID office.
 
Surviving Spouses or Domestic Partners of Those Who Die While Actively Employed
Surviving spouses or domestic partners of employees who die while actively employed are automatically eligible to use and renew their dependent ID cards regardless of the deceased employee's age or years of service. ID cards and ID validation stickers will only be issued at the request of the surviving spouse or domestic partner. Cards and validation stickers will not be issued automatically. Requests should be made annually and in person to the ID office. 

Procedure

Supervisor
Advises eligible prospective regular retirees to keep their current identification cards.
 
Office of Human Resources
Each year, when requested, gives a list of eligible retirees to the ID office to generate labels for validation stickers.
 
Notifies ID office of current retirements on a regular basis. Also sends notices of deceased employees.
 
TigerCard Office
Coordinates issuance of validation stickers.
