O-1 Alien of Extraordinary Ability
Those individuals appointed to a DOF employment rank may be eligible for O-1 alien of extraordinary ability. This is an individual who has reached the top of their profession. It requires extensive documentation and must be employed in a position that requires an alien of extraordinary ability.
The O-1 Alien of Extraordinary Ability status is used for Dean of Faculty appointments as: Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Research Scholar, Associate Research Scholar, and Professional Specialist. Those with outside fellowships/scholarships (even if paid through Princeton) are not eligible for O-1 status through Princeton.
No other employment is allowed in O-1 status unless the other employer(s) also receive an O-1 petition approval. For academic activities that are incidental the O-1’s primary activity, expenses may be reimbursed but no honoraria may be received.
