Summer Funding for Graduate Students
The Sharmin and Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies provides summer grants to graduate students pursuing research and intensive language training primarily related to the scholarship of Iran and the Persian Gulf. Interested graduate students are invited to submit application materials via SAFE (Login with your PU credentials and search for this opportunity by selecting graduate research, summer term, and location.)
Applications should include a project statement of your proposed summer activity and how this directly relates to the scholarship of Iran and the Persian Gulf, as well as the location of this activity, proposed dates, and a detailed budget with explanation of how your projected costs were calculated. One recommendation letter from your principal or prospective adviser must be included. Graduate students from all Princeton University departments are welcome to apply.
The Summer 2017 funding application deadline is February 15, 2017.
When preparing your budget, please keep in mind that grants from our center are paid through SAFE and may be subject to tax reporting. For non-resident aliens, taxes may be withheld. The Office of Finance and Treasury can assist you with any questions pertaining to these topics.
Near Eastern Studies graduate students are expected to apply to their home department as the primary source of research and language funding. The Center can provide supplemental funding to help support NES-based grants, if needed.
For the Summer of 2017, the Center will only consider funding applications for travel to Iran by students who have previously traveled to Iran.* For scholarly travel to other areas of the Persian Gulf and beyond, the Center will consider funding applications from all graduate students up through the first year of DCE status.
A note to applicants who are eligible for travel to Iran (see above eligibility requirement *). If granted funding, there will be a mandatory meeting at the Center in Spring 2017 before final support can be awarded. Please contact email@example.com with any questions.
Please visit the Persian Language Study page of the Center's website for program suggestions.
