Properly securing the information that your area creates or is entrusted with requires expertise in a variety of disciplines. These include, but are not limited to:
- An understanding of the sensitivity of the information
- Available IT security products and services
- Physical security devices and techniques
- Applicable laws
- Contract requirements
- Risk management
- Audit and Compliance
Many of the concerns are common across departments, it would be time consuming and inefficient for each department to contact each of the areas of the University that cover these disciplines on an individual basis.
Due to the cross functional nature of the IT Security Office, it is well positioned to serve as a liaison between your department and the many University departments involved in the IT security effort as well as a clearinghouse of information provided through previous project discussions.
